About Me
My name is Jacob Slone. I was born in the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and I have lived in Chesapeake, Virginia my entire life. I graduated from Grassfield Highschool in Chesapeake in 2021 and enrolled at Tidewater Community College to major in Cybersecurity. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity with the Tidewater Community College Associate of Applied Science to Old Dominion Bachelor of Science articulation agreement.
I grew my love of computers from my father. I would always watch him do his work and play games on his nice desktop computer and would sit for hours and watch him just type and click away. I was fortunate enough to get my first desktop when I was around 10 years old and from there grew my interest in Cybersecurity through my father teaching me how to be cyber safe when using the internet and to be careful when clicking suspicious links. Since then I fell in love with the internet and cybersecurity and have devoted my studies to them.
TCC and ODU have helped grow my interest in cybersecurity a lot by giving me a hands-on experience with its in-depth courses and involved professors. I have had the opportunity to network with various different professors and alumni that have years of experience in the Cybersecurity field and give amazing insight on how to best prepare for it. The cyber curriculum is set up to help students master their understanding of various cybersecurity topics through virtual labs and hands-on hardware projects.
My career goal is to work for the federal government in cyber defense. Overall, serving our country by protecting our nation's infrastructure, classified data, classified information, and nation's identity. The United States Navy is particularly appealing to me as many of my family members have served in the Navy, both on active duty and as government civilians. I would like to work in as many cybersecurity and cyber operations elements as possible.
My personal interest includes spending time with family, going to the movies, and going to the beach.
